title:
building a defence: engine room 32
artist:
adam watts
the starting point for adam watts installation is the maunsell sea forts used for defense in world war two and decommissioned in the 50's.
the installation acts as the heart of a power structure bigger than its self, at once integral yet forgotten. by creating an 'engine room' he suggests the work is only part of, but not the actual whole. the 'whole' will be left to interpretation.
the engine is still active, if just, but the suggestion of an outer structure leaves the installation in a limbo of creation and redundancy.
note: all materials have been sourced locally. from the adjoining building works to the olympic site at stratford.
