L'Amant Dining

For Frieze week, two passionate chefs largely known for their banh mi baguettes are about to launch their concept L'Amant Dining at GALERIE8 and commission an installation by artist Ayuko Sugiura to create an immersive multi-sensory experience.

Ayuko Sugiura (1984) is a Japanese born London based artist and recent graduate of Slade School of Fine Art, University College London in 2010. Her works are underpinned by an interest in iconography and myth constructed by contemporary society. She merges these constructs and develops them into ‘hybrid’ sculptural forms, or immersive environments. Often the works take on a multi-sensorial experience that evokes very particular emotions from the viewers. Sugiura is an award recipient ofthe 2009 Andor Scholarship, Slade School of Fine Art, University College London and was shortlistedfor The Adrian Carruthers Memorial Award 2010 and theUJADF award in2010. She is represented by WW Gallery, London.

L'Amant Dining createsan interactive experiment in modern Vietnamese cooking; taking stock of the classic dishes while playing with today's nomadic food influences. Believers of food as an artistic expression and cooking as a process of craftsmanship, the menu is built as an accumulation of layers, reminiscent of autumn leaves. Invitingdiners to unfold the 7-course meal of Seabass Carpaccio, Grilled Mackerel Summer Roll, Stairway to Heaven Noodle Soup, Pho Nori Roll, Fish Nem, Caramelised Claypot Pork Belly, and Home-made Ice Cream. Specially selected wine will accompany the dishes.
