Shannon Bono, Émile-Samory Fofana & Jakob Rowlinson

This summer, OOF is filling the spaces of its Grade-II listed gallery with a series of solo shows by some of its favourite young artists. Football is at the heart of all of these new commissions, but each artist has taken it in their own direction. These exhibitions tackle topics like sexuality, race, tradition, rivalry and the pure passion of football, all from totally unique perspectives.

The summer schedule is split into groups, just like a World Cup, but for art. Group A will run from 19 May – 3 July and feature solo presentations by Shannon Bono, Émile-Samory Fofana and Jakob Rowlinson.

In gallery one, Jakob Rowlinson’s tapestries and hand-embroidered club crests blend football iconography with queer references and quasi-religious imagery. Gallery two is filled with the West African street photography and bootleg football shirt obsessions of French-Malian artist Émile-Samory Fofana. Upstairs, gallery three is home to Shannon Bono’s beautiful new paintings inspired by footballer Chioma Ubogagu.
