Tamara Krikorian & Peers: An evening of short video works

Tamara Krikorian, Unassembled Information 1977

During the Women Artists of North East Library’s (WANEL) residency at Northumbria University, Holly Argent has been researching the work, context and influence of Tamara Krikorian; a pioneering video artist who lectured at the former Polytechnic during the 1970s. A co-founder of London Video Arts, Krikorian organised the first video art conference in Britain ‘Video: Towards Defining an Aesthetic’ at the Third Eye Centre, Glasgow in 1976, and was involved in a number of high-profile exhibitions platforming this emerging medium, including the Serpentine’s ‘Video Show’ 1975 and ‘Artists Video’ 1976, the UK’s inaugural exhibition of international video artists at Biddick Farm Arts Centre (now Washington Arts Centre).

Join WANEL for an evening of short video works that bring together Krikorian’s work alongside fellow lecturer Stuart Marshall and other regional and national artists Krikorian connected with over the course of a decade, whose practices shared a preoccupation with the medium of television and questioned the power of mass media.
